  • Questions

    1) How long is their daily labor?

This is a good statistical question because it allows us to understand how long they have to labor for their daily wage/salary.

    2) What do they desire that pushes them to work?

This question is a personal question that shows what motivates the worker to do his labor on a day to day basis.

     3) Where did the majority of them come from?

This is a good 'branching' question because it will lead to other questions such as: Why didn’t you stay and work there?

    4) What do they do to earn their wager/salary?

I chose this question because I think that it would help with my other statistical question.

    5) What are the living conditions at the campsite?

It shows what they have to put up with throughout their labor wherever they may be.

       Strategy

    • The first thing that to do is list a possible number of sources:

      War in the Middle East

      Ambe

      ILO

      Blood, Sweat, And Tears

      Human Rights UN Article

      Ambe (Recruitment Process)

      Qatar Worker Count

      Contractors

    • Indicate which source informatiom and explain which sites are more reliant, classify sources into different group:
      • Where Workers are Coming From
        • War in the Middle East: States where some of the workers are coming from because of Middle East war; might be reliant because tells about labor caused from war
        • Contractors: State where the majority of workers are coming from (Philippines, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan) and that sometimes people are kidnapped in order to do work; might be reliable
        • Blood Sweat and Tears: It's an overall great source because it shares loads of information on the workers side; States majority of the workers come from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Pakistan.
        • Qatar Worker Count: Tells the amount of different workers are in Qatar; might be reliable because it's from a world news website
      • Jobs That People Desire in Middle East/Recruitment Process
        • Ambe: gives a huge list of jobs that are waiting for employment; is reliant because is a huge worker employer for the Gulf and other parts of Asia
        • Ambe (Recruitment Process): It shows the recruitment process that goes in India; is reliant because it's an international organization
      • Working Conditions/Wagers
        • ILO: States working condition issues and wagers like how the workers are getting exploited with low wages and horrible working conditions; I think that it's reliant because it's a national oranization
        • Blood Sweat and Tears: It shows you the campsites and tells you their daily wager and how long their labor is; reliant because contains actual footage
      • Human Rights
        • Human Rights UN Article: States in Article 23 Number 1 "Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment." though very few countries abide by these guidlines/rules; is very reliant because the document was formed by the General Assembly of the United Nations
    • Interpret the usefulness of each resource and group and WHY the resource and group is useful or not
      • Where Workers are Coming From: Useful because then people can understand that all of these people that come over think that the gulf will be their best chance of money or that they were forced to because of war or a different reason
      • Jobs That People Desire in Middle East/Recruitment Process: Useful and not very useful because it shows the jobs that there going to go to the gulf to do and it has the process in order to get recruited
      • Working Conditions/Wagers: Very Useful becausse it shows one how unjust the wagers and conditions are
      • Human Rights: Sort of usefull because it states that the workers should have favorable conditions
        • War in the Middle East: Almost useless beacuse it mostly talks about the war and not really about the labor caused by it
        • Ambe: Almost useless because the only thing that was really useful to me was the jobs that were being applied for
        • Ambe (Recruitment Process): Useful because it shows what a hassel it is just to get employed
        • Contractors: Useful because it indicates different things about a worker's 'problems' and states where the majority of the workers are coming from
        • ILO: Very useful because it has loads of information regarding wages and conditions for workers
        • Blood Sweat and Tears: Very useful because it provided loads of information about conditions, wages, worker feelings, and where workers are coming from to work in the Middle East
        • Human Rights UN Article: Sort of usefull because it states that the workers should have favorable conditions and such in Article 23
        • Qatar Worker Count: Useful because it states who and how many workers there are in Qatar and says that some workers are nervous because of large suicidal rate
    • Compare and contrast sources and criticize usless sources and then categorize a new list of 5 sources
      • Working Conditions/Wagers        (Keep?)

Both of these sources describe or show the living conditions and they both state the wagers

These two sources have almost the same info except forthe fact that one doesn't show you the process of being recruited. Over all the Ambe site only gave me information regarding where jobs are and what jobs there are in those countries.

This source does have some good info but I'm not sure how to use it in my poem.

    • Assemble a page of notes from the resources
    • Evaluate how did according to your information quality and effort
    • Be able to defend your information and assess your quality of poem and add or delete information according to strength of paper.
